Special Edition: Eclipse Eye Ring

To celebrate 45 years of business in the Carnaby area and to pay homage to it’s vibrant history we have created a special edition of one of our first and most classic designs – the Eye Ring. We have customised our existing eye design and set it with this mind manifesting eye colour.

The 1970’s was a period of intense political and cultural change. Carnaby Street was famous for being the beating heart, epicentre of culture and lifestyle in London’s West End with it’s bright colours and eccentric people. It was the place to be if you were in a creative search for inspiration.

Opening in 1972 by founder Paterson Riley, The Great Frog offered a rock ’n’ roll alternative to mainstream jewellery catering to the emerging subcultures of heavy metal, rock ‘n’ roll, rockers, punks and bikers. Like an eclipse, our ominous crypt-like style was an extreme contrast to geometric prints and boxy silhouettes of the time.

Our signature eye jewellery is still made from real handprinted prosthetic eyes. A base colour is layered with a painted pattern over the top to give a realistic effect, before delicate strands of silk are inlayed into the resin around the iris to imitate the veins of an eyeball. We then cut the eye to fit inside the setting, made from British hallmarked .925 sterling silver.
