The skull design for the vast majority of TGF skull rings have slightly changed since the 70s, we’ve veered away from the exaggerated features with over-sized teeth to more anatomically correct skulls. Being the perfectionist that he is, TGF designer Reino wanted more authentic looking human skull rings so the past 10 years have seen a skull evolution. The first ‘new’ skull design (about 10 years ago) was the New Skool Skull, although not 100% anatomically correct, the teeth are smaller and are a better perspective to a human skull. Over the years we’ve designed anatomically correct skulls; the Anatomical Skull, Desperado, Biker, Jester, Confederate and Skull & Dagger rings to name a few – you can tell if a skull is anatomically correct from the shape of the orbit where the eye would be and the smaller teeth.

The creation of the smaller skulls rings came a little later, the Double Headed Skull Band and Skull & Fleur de Lis were made with slimmer fingers and smaller hands in mind; both anatomically correct too.
The Jawless Anatomical Skull ring came into existence almost by accident; our online manager Jess wanted to create a unique ring for her friend Leno, so she had the jaw removed from the existing Anatomical Skull ring and ta-da! – the Jawless Anatomical Skull Ring was born.
Not many people know this but if you look closely at the Confederate Skull ring you will see it’s Lemmy – Reino carved the initial design to honour his friend in true TGF style, however the design didn’t get approved as it was deemed too morbid, so the name got changed and the ‘Lemmy’ ring never came into existence.
The latest skull ring to date (June 2016) is the Helm Ring, inspired by bold designs at the helm of a ship, we can just imagine this strong skull and crossbones charging through choppy seas. Click here for a closer look.
